Lead Electrical Engineer 1 - Nuclear
This is a full-time, on-site position at the TRISO-X Fuel Fabrication Facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
About the Role
You will lead a group on challenging projects involving the investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of electrical engineering issues to support single and multi-discipline projects. Most projects require coordination across multiple disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Lead efforts by group members to ensure successful completion of electrical engineering project deliverables, meeting technical, quality, financial, and project controls expectations.
- Initiate and convey the scope of work to group members, defining deliverables such as calculations, specifications, drawings, and design changes.
- Review and track the progress of group members to maintain project scope and budget while keeping the client informed.
- Conduct routine status meetings and submit progress reports.
- Track and resolve open items and emergent project issues.
- Coordinate the completion of project deliverables and lead the team through detailed design phases for all aspects of electrical engineering, including interfacing with other disciplines.
- Develop project scope, cost estimates, and schedules for complex electrical modifications at nuclear power plants.
- Develop proposals for complex electrical modifications at nuclear power plants.
- Provide technical oversight and supervision for all electrical engineering activities, including:
- Engineering design change packages to install, replace, or upgrade existing plant equipment for long-term reliability.
- Engineering calculations supporting design change packages, such as AC and DC power studies, short circuit analysis, cable ampacity, voltage drop, breaker coordination, motor starting, and protective relay settings.
- Equipment procurement specifications and bid review evaluations for potential vendors, including managing vendor requests for information and tracking questions/responses.
- Interface with clients to validate scope and ensure satisfaction.
- Mentor and guide the development of the group.
- Identify and follow up on client needs that may lead to strategic opportunities.
- Leverage client relationships to develop follow-on work.
- Prepare and coordinate multi-discipline proposals.
- Lead the use of modern tools, including automation and AI, to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs. Oversee engineers who use programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate tasks, with review of automated outputs.
Requirements
- BS degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Ten or more years of experience in the design of electrical engineering systems for power plants.
- Three or more years of experience leading an engineering design group through all phases of a project.
- Experience in equipment selection, materials, and preparation of engineering design change packages, calculations, and specifications.
- Experience serving as a firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
- Experience with electrical system design, including low and medium voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors, relays, etc.).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for conveying information to project teams and clients.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Detail-oriented approach to work.
- Capable of being badged for unescorted access to a nuclear station.
- PE Licensure is preferred.
- Willingness or ability to lead others in using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows.
- Additional learning or experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields is valued.

Pay
Compensation range: $118,023 - $180,313. The total compensation package includes a base salary, comprehensive benefits, and eligibility for a yearly discretionary bonus.
