Lead Driver
About the role
A Lead Driver CDL (A) oversees a group of drivers to ensure complete route coverage, provides prompt and courteous customer service, and safely operates a truck to deliver waste removal services. The role includes ensuring vehicle compliance with company safety standards, adhering to all regulations, completing daily vehicle condition reports (VCRs), and assisting in training new drivers on safety and driving techniques.
Responsibilities
- Oversee a group of drivers daily to ensure timely route service; report downtime or concerns to management; assist in planning and executing re-routes for efficiency; train new drivers.
- Perform pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections to check tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls; report safety issues on standard reports.
- Safely operate a heavy truck along designated routes and to disposal sites; follow route sheets, maps, and dispatcher instructions to service customers.
- Operate manual and/or automatic controls to lift and load refuse, compact waste, and dispose of material at designated facilities, adhering to company safety policies.
- Interact courteously with customers, dispatchers, and others to ensure timely and professional service.
- Identify and tag unsatisfactory waste containers following departmental procedures.
- Monitor waste for unacceptable materials and clean accidental spills while adhering to safety standards.
- Continuously monitor vehicle condition to minimize downtime; clean waste from the packer blade and truck body after each disposal trip.
- Complete route/productivity sheets, VCRs, and other required reports.
- Maintain productivity standards to ensure timely customer service.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures and participate in the Company’s ReSOP program.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Three years of prior experience driving commercial trucks preferred.
- One year in a lead role.
- Good customer service skills to meet and exceed customer expectations; professional, courteous, and cooperative demeanor.
- Strong time management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
- Ability to follow through on tasks and adhere to work schedules; addresses challenges as they arise.
- Adherence to company policies and safety standards; avoids inappropriate risks.
- Pride in work and commitment to achieving goals.
Qualifications
- Class A or higher Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes endorsement.
