Starting at $22.00+ per hour. DakotAbilities, a human service agency providing vocational and residential services for adults with developmental disabilities, is looking to fill full-time and part-time Direct Support Professional and Lead positions.

About the role

Provide daily living support to people with disabilities in their home and assist them to achieve their personal goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with personal care, bathing, mealtime, positioning, lifting, shopping, and community involvement.
  • Supervision: Staff training and supervision, assist in the evaluation process for employees, carry out assigned duties when the Manager is absent.
  • Scheduling: Assist the Manager with scheduling and staffing.
  • Support plans: Provide input and information into the development of individual support plans; maintain knowledge and ensure implementation of each person’s individualized support plan (including behavior, dietary, medical, etc.).
  • Community involvement: Assist people in accessing and participating in community services and events of their choice; help develop and maintain relationships within the community.
  • Driving: Safely operate and maintain agency vehicles; assure safety by properly using tie downs, seat-belts, lifts, and all other required safety equipment.
  • Training: Complete required training (OSHA, CPR, OMA, Relias Learning, and other training as required).
  • Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality in all environments.
  • Safety: Perform safe transfers and re-positioning specific for each person’s needs; recognize, report, and react to any safety hazards in all environments in a timely manner; comply with outside agency regulations (Dept. of Health, ARSD, OSHA, etc.).
  • Personal care: Respect individual choice while providing personal care; provide quality assistance with personal care (using the bathroom, bathing, eating, oral hygiene, dressing, medical care, etc.).
  • Health: Safe and proper administration of medications and treatments; recognize and timely report health concerns.
  • Dietary: Assist with following dietary requirements and individualized diet plans, including preparing meals according to dietary guidelines.
  • Documentation: Complete and accurate documentation in all required areas (e.g., Therap, programs, services, computer, and fabrications) using professional language; ensure Direct Support Professionals are completing accurate documentation in all required areas.
  • Cleaning: Complete cleaning tasks as assigned; follow the cleaning product usage guide.
  • Teamwork: Consistently work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow team members; ensure effective communication between coworkers, shifts, and departments; consistently take the initiative to complete job requirements.
  • Relationships: Develop and maintain professional and respectful relationships with all DakotAbilities stakeholders.
  • Attendance: Work shifts as assigned with regular and reliable attendance; follow the guidelines for contacting a manager with scheduling issues; attend staff meetings.
  • Contract Work: Ensure compliance with Labor Laws to ensure proper payment for work done by people supported; ensure that work completed is done at 100% accuracy for quality control; complete documentation for work done by people supported and turn in on time.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stay awake and alert during all shifts.
  • Ability to work in awkward positions, sustained flexion, and crouched positions.
  • Actions performed continuously: Lift over 10 lbs. and see.
  • Actions performed frequently: Kneel, crouch, stand, walk, lift over 50 lbs., push, pull, bend, reach, handle, finger (pinch-type activity, repetitive movement), talk, and hear.
  • Actions performed occasionally: Sit, lift over 60 lbs., carry, pull, push, and balance.
  • Actions performed seldom: Crawl and climb.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with developmentally disabled adults.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Sincere interest in assisting people reach personal goals.
  • Ability to lift and transfer people.
  • Valid South Dakota driver’s license with safe driving record.
  • Must pass criminal records/background check and drug screening.
  • Minimum of 18 years old; 21 years old to drive.

Pay

Starting at $22.00+ per hour.
