Lead DevOps Engineer
The Team
Information processing and sense-making systems are crucial for national security, enabling better understanding of global situations, strategic planning, and tactical execution. The STR Analytics and Command & Control (AC2) Division specializes in developing advanced technology solutions to provide asymmetric advantages in the information domain. The Mission Applications (MA) Group within the AC2 Division creates significant mission impact for customers by integrating STR technology into operational use. Staff in the MA group have expertise in transitioning technology to operational use, including product management, user experience (UX) product implementation, software integration, mission engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, and program management. They collaborate with other engineering teams across STR's research and development groups to form dedicated product teams focused on accelerating the operational transition of cutting-edge software technologies.
The Role
As a DevOps Engineer in the Mission Applications Group, you will lead software teams to design, develop, and maintain infrastructure and tooling for deploying software in operational use. You will manage relationships with customer environments while ensuring the delivered product meets high standards of quality, reliability, and performance. You will work as part of Agile software teams to design and implement Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for various deployment environments. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting cloud toolsets in unclassified environments
- Configuring and maintaining multiple CI/CD environments at different classification levels
- Focusing on developer productivity, application performance, security monitoring, and alerting
- Liaising with corporate IT to ensure team infrastructure toolsets are configured, maintained, reliable, and compliant with Department of Defense standards
- Coaching team members on DevOps best practices and continuously improving processes
This role benefits from STR's flexible, hybrid environment, allowing remote work when necessary. You may occasionally need to work at STR or government facilities for classified operations. You must be a U.S. citizen with an active SCI clearance and possess the following qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science or related field with at least 5 years of work experience
- Experience with CI/CD tools, cloud platforms, containerization technologies, Kubernetes management, and DevOps best practices
- Knowledge of Linux system administration, Python, and Linux shell scripting
- Basic cybersecurity knowledge
- Organizational and communication skills
- Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Current Security+ certification
The full-time salary range for this position is $175,000 - $240,000, based on factors such as experience, education, and market conditions. Who You Are
You must be a U.S. citizen with an active SCI clearance and possess the following qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science or related field with at least 5 years of work experience

You should also be located in San Diego, CA, Denver, CO, Arlington, VA, or Boston, MA, or willing to relocate. Additional desirable qualifications include:
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Experience with full web-service stacks, databases, logging, and monitoring
- Experience with project tracking tools like Jira
- Experience with GitOps tools like ArgoCD or Flux
- Experience with deploying and maintaining artifact repositories (such as Nexus, Artifactory)
- Experience with deploying and configuring static and dynamic code analysis tools (such as SonarQube, Coverity)
- Experience with platforms like ArgoCD, Flux, or Terraform
- Experience leading teams in Agile/Scrum software development processes
