Lead Database Engineer
About the role
As a Lead Database Engineer at McLane, you will play a pivotal role in designing, optimizing, and scaling enterprise database solutions that support complex, data-driven business operations. You will partner closely with application teams, architects, and business stakeholders to ensure data is secure, reliable, and available when it matters most.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise-scale database solutions
- Drive database architecture decisions with a focus on performance, scalability, security, and reliability
- Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, data integrity issues, and availability risks
- Partner with engineering, infrastructure, and business teams to support mission-critical applications
- Establish and enforce database standards, best practices, and operational excellence
- Mentor and guide team members, providing technical leadership and thought partnership
Requirements
This role requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
- 5+ years of experience in database administration across mainframe, Unix, Linux, and Windows environments
Skills
Database administration, performance tuning, automation, problem-solving, mentoring, and leadership skills are required.
