About the role
The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to join the Banking Supervision, Surveillance and Policy Analysis team. This role involves developing and maintaining financial and economic analysis, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and producing regular monitoring reports and analytics solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Tableau dashboards for senior leadership on emerging banking risks and supervisory activities.
- Write quarterly risk reports and ad hoc analyses explaining top and watch risks for Eleventh District banks to senior leadership and the public.
- Clean, validate, and analyze financial datasets for fundamental research and internal surveillance and risk models.
- Lead or participate in creating briefing material and original analysis.
- Confer with Federal Reserve personnel and banking industry contacts to gather information and determine relevant topics for briefings.
- Prepare semi-annual briefings and discussion topics for Community Depository Institution Advisory Council leadership, FRB Dallas Advisory Council members, and quarterly banking perspectives for senior Reserve Bank executives.
- Participate in meetings with Reserve Bank management to discuss policy issues, findings, and recommendations.
- Ensure written documents summarizing policy findings comply with System and district standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain expertise by attending system and industry conferences, discussions, and training.
- Awareness of risks and changes affecting all business lines and entities supervised.
- Monitor developments in Fintech, Energy, and the Mexican economy, and recommend supervisory policy responses.
- Review industry news, Federal Register notices, and economic data reports, and recommend appropriate actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
- Advanced degree and/or professional certification preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of banking, financial, regulatory, or related experience, including at least 3 years in a technical leadership role.
- Proven track record of successfully leading data science projects.
- Strong knowledge of operations, applicable laws and regulations, and relevant supervisory guidance for specialty area.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to handle difficult or challenging conversations and provide critical feedback.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including senior staff at the Reserve Bank, Board of Governors, and banking organizations.
- Proficiency in modern statistical and general-purpose programming languages, with preference for Python and R.
- Expertise in data analysis, machine learning, and statistical modeling.
- Experience with data visualization tools and big data technologies such as Tableau, Quarto, SQL/SAS/Hadoop, or Starburst.
- Strong knowledge of bank accounting principles and familiarity with bank financial reporting data (Call Report, Y-9, Y-14, etc.).
