Lead Data Science Consultant

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Data Science Consultant focused on delivering advanced analytics to identify resiliency risks, gaps, and performance insights across resiliency programs. This individual will translate complex data into clear, actionable insights to inform senior leadership decisions and strategy, and build models to improve resiliency outcomes (e.g., risk identification, scenario impacts, service stability). The successful candidate will be inquisitive, think outside the box, and maintain a risk-based mindset.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex initiatives using data-driven, advanced analytical, statistical techniques, algorithms, or models to generate actionable insights, trends, and recommendations, including cross-functional projects with broad impact.
• Review and analyze complex, multi-faceted, large-scale, or long-term business, operational, or technical challenges requiring in-depth hypothesis generation and advanced analysis of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented elements.
• Make decisions in complex situations requiring analytical expertise to resolve abstract business issues and influence broader team deliverables or new initiatives.
• Strategically collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and mid-to-senior managers to drive data-driven recommendations and strategies that resolve issues and achieve goals; may lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor.
• Execute complex analytical experiments and create innovative statistical models to discover solutions for abstract business problems across various domains.
• Interpret and analyze data using advanced analytics modeling methods and programming to recommend solutions and influence business decisions and strategies.
• Provide consultation to peers on data science best practices, methods, and tools.
• Communicate actionable insights and recommendations using data in a digestible format to non-technical audiences of varying levels.

Requirements

• 5+ years of data science experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of industry experience in developing Machine Learning and Statistical Models from idea generation to implementation and deliverables.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, or other relevant technical field.
• Proven industry experience in natural language processing and text mining.
• Strong understanding of statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and experimental design.
• Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science (Python, R, Spark, etc.).
• Practical knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings/vector search, document extraction tools (Azure Document Intelligence, Textract, DocAI), LangChain/LlamaIndex, and production MLOps.
• Strong SQL experience.
• Working experience with visualization tools such as PowerBI and/or Tableau.
• Expertise in developing and deploying distributed ML models on a cloud environment.
• Experience in GenAI/LLM (Claude, Gemini, and Llama 3.x).
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to craft compelling stories through data analysis.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across all organizational levels, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Schedule

• Hybrid work schedule: 3 days in office and 2 days remote.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Pay

$139,000.00 - $239,000.00 base pay range. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
