Lead Custodian

Internal bids accepted through 8/14/26 at 4:00 PM. External applicants will be considered if no successful internal bidder is selected.

Responsibilities

• Remove trash
• Maintain restrooms
• Clean glass surfaces
• Dust horizontal surfaces, clocks, overhead screens, and blinds
• Clean carpets and hard flooring
• Assist with deep cleaning during break periods (stripping, scrubbing, and recoating floors; carpet extraction; cleaning restrooms, glass, and furniture)
• Remove snow, cut grass, and perform minor grounds keeping
• Assist with delivery of supplies
• Properly use and maintain equipment per owner’s manual or direction from maintenance staff
• Operate all energy-consuming devices efficiently to maximize energy conservation
• Monitor HVAC system and report problems to maintenance via work orders
• Make minor repairs to equipment, building, furniture, hardware, and windows
• Report major repair problems to head custodian and maintenance department
• Responsible for closing and securing the building
• Establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with teachers, students, and fellow employees
• Treat fellow workers with respect and facilitate a non-hostile work environment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Physical ability to lift and carry 56 lbs.
• Physical ability to climb an eight-foot ladder and perform custodial tasks
• Must meet all general qualifications listed in the "Lead Custodian" job description for the Davenport Community School District

Qualifications

• High school degree or GED
• Ability to direct others to successfully complete assigned tasks
• Thorough knowledge of cleaning procedures, chemicals, and equipment
• Ability to learn how to operate a computer, use email, open attachments, and complete electronic work orders

Pay

New hire entry-level rate: $20.62 per hour. Current employees with seniority in the bargaining unit should refer to the salary schedule established by the bargaining unit.

Schedule

3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (day shift when school is not in session).
