Job Summary

We are seeking a Lead Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join our dedicated team at St. Joseph Hospital. As part of Catholic Health, we strive to provide the highest quality care and are committed to excellence in every aspect of patient experience.

About the Role

Assist the Supervisor in overseeing the daily operations of the department, assign workload to staff members, troubleshoot assay problems, and handle customer inquiries. Act as a trainer and contribute to method development.

Responsibilities

  • Assign workload to staff members
  • Assist in troubleshooting assay problems
  • Handle customer calls and troubleshoot issues
  • Review Preventive Maintenance, Quality Control, and assay performance
  • Train and assist in methods development
  • Communicate with superiors, peers, and subordinates
  • Ensure effective inventory of supplies
  • Identify, analyze, and solve problems
  • Prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring processes
  • Develop and coach team members
  • Monitor and evaluate productivity reports
  • Document staff performance appraisals
  • Develop and implement departmental SOPMs
  • Ensure laboratory preparedness for audits and inspections

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Biomedical Sciences from an accredited institution (NAACLS, ASCP, or NCA eligible)

Licenses: NYS license required

Experience: 4 years hospital experience required, prior lead or supervisory experience preferred, or a combination of 2 years hospital experience and a Master's Degree, or 1 year hospital experience and a PhD.

Qualifications

Ability to access problems, promote a positive team spirit, communicate with clients, and work with management to expand department services.

Technically capable of aiding in disease detection, diagnosis, and treatment through lab testing.

Exercise independent judgment and responsibility in performing tests according to established protocols.

Able to ensure adequate staffing and scheduling.

Communicate effectively with superiors, peers, and subordinates (internally and externally).

Display professional work ethics (attendance, punctuality, appearance).

Assess and document staff competencies.

Participate in the interviewing and hiring processes.

Develop and coach team members.

Monitor and evaluate productivity reports and follow up.

Ensure laboratory preparedness for audits and inspections.

Pay

Salary range: USD $65.93 - USD $80.49 per year.
