Lead Clinical Lab Scientist - Microbiology/Molecular

About the role

The incumbent serves as a Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) within the Microbiology/Molecular section of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center - performing key duties in the clinical laboratory. The incumbent performs higher-level duties consisting of significant scope - complexity (difficulty) and range of variety at least 25% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Develops, performs, evaluates, interprets, correlates, and validates the accuracy of microbiology and molecular tests.
• Collaborates with other laboratory staff to ensure accurate and timely testing.
• Monitors and maintains quality control procedures to ensure the reliability of test results.
• Provides technical guidance and training to less experienced laboratory personnel.
• Contributes to the development and implementation of new laboratory protocols and procedures.
• May participate in research activities related to microbiology and molecular diagnostics.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science - medical technology - clinical laboratory science or in a related science (e.g. - laboratory sciences such as chemistry - biochemistry - biology - microbiology - immunology - etc.).
• Categorical or specialist certifications by ASCP or AMT.
• Experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) including developing, performing, evaluating, interpreting, correlating, and validating the accuracy of microbiology and molecular tests.
