About the role
Lighthouse Central Florida is seeking a Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) to lead the Orientation & Mobility team and provide life-changing services to individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and support a team of Orientation & Mobility professionals.
- Manage team caseloads, performance conversations, scheduling, and workflow.
- Provide high-quality Orientation & Mobility assessments and instruction in both center-based and community settings.
- Develop individualized training plans that promote safe, independent travel.
- Collaborate with case managers, families, schools, and community partners to ensure exceptional client outcomes.
- Ensure timely documentation, regulatory compliance, and quality service delivery.
- Participate in leadership initiatives, staff development, community outreach, and continuous program improvement.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Visual Disabilities or a related field.
- Current Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional Orientation & Mobility experience.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Passion for mentoring staff and empowering individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass a Level II background screening.
- Ability to maintain required professional certifications.
