About the role

Lighthouse Central Florida is seeking a Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) to lead the Orientation & Mobility team and provide life-changing services to individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and support a team of Orientation & Mobility professionals.
  • Manage team caseloads, performance conversations, scheduling, and workflow.
  • Provide high-quality Orientation & Mobility assessments and instruction in both center-based and community settings.
  • Develop individualized training plans that promote safe, independent travel.
  • Collaborate with case managers, families, schools, and community partners to ensure exceptional client outcomes.
  • Ensure timely documentation, regulatory compliance, and quality service delivery.
  • Participate in leadership initiatives, staff development, community outreach, and continuous program improvement.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Visual Disabilities or a related field.
  • Current Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional Orientation & Mobility experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for mentoring staff and empowering individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a Level II background screening.
  • Ability to maintain required professional certifications.
