Lead Cell Operator

About the Role

As a Lead Cell Operator, you will be responsible for system upkeep and operations of automated adapters used to interface with the Symbotic structure. You will assist with system readiness to achieve performance targets as defined by leadership and utilize Human/Machine Interface terminals to effectively operate equipment.

The Lead Cell Operator is part of the Customer Operations organization, which leads the day-to-day operations of Symbotic’s robotic material handling system. This team drives operational excellence by partnering with onsite customers to ensure best-in-class quality, safety, and system performance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety commitments in compliance with OSHA, Symbotic, and customer processes and procedures are met daily.
• Perform pre-production checks on automated adapters to ensure equipment is in a ‘ready to run’ state.
• Process and monitor the flow of the automated storage and retrieval system, including manual inbound, automatic inbound, and automatic outbound, to achieve maximum throughput and cases per hour.
• Prepare pallets for induction into the Symbotic storage and retrieval system.
• Assess causes of system stoppage and return to service using Human/Machine Interface (HMI) and manual intervention.
• Assist team members in troubleshooting system operations.
• Analyze recurring faults and determine the best corrective action.
• Communicate and escalate all issues impacting production immediately to operational leadership.
• Contribute to overall system uptime through system preservation, robot recovery, suspect removal, and bot health actions.
• Make recommendations for process and continuous improvement.
• Perform periodic system inspections, including cleaning, lubrication, tolerance checking, and component validation.
• Report all out-of-spec conditions and perform root cause corrective action.
• Maintain continuous operation of system components.
• Monitor and utilize common radio etiquette while obtaining instructions from leadership and operational leads.
• Perform rover bot upkeep, including replacing wheels, cleaning, ESD brushes, and sensors.
• Responsible for automated robotic vehicle recovery in the Symbotic Matrix select system, including working in restrictive environments.
• Assist Automation Technicians with breakdown calls and continuous system availability.
• Perform basic duties of Automation Technicians as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by leadership.

• Proficient in performing all system inspection functions, including cleaning, lubrication, tolerance checking, current measurements, and checking electrical systems.

• Must be literate in English (written and verbal).

Work Environment

• Steep stairs to climb into the structure; regular proximity to railings high off the ground.
• Subject to environmental conditions, including protection from weather but not necessarily temperature changes.
• Capable of working in temperatures ranging from 105°F to 32°F.
• If the site is under construction, proper PPE is required (hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe shoes, eyeglasses, ear protection, fall protection such as a safety harness).
• Frequent ability to safely and efficiently lift items weighing up to 50 lbs and move items weighing up to 80 lbs.
• Stand or walk for up to 10-12 hours; frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms.
• Routinely work at heights of up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches.
• Frequently stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Capable of occasional or continuous feeling, seeing, hearing, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, balancing, gripping, climbing, crawling, sitting, handling objects, and repetitive movement using both hands and feet.
• Must comply with all safety requirements and protocols, including lockout/tagout and fall protection.

Pay

The base range for this position in the posted location is $25.00 - $26.00 per hour. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, and PTO, among other benefits.
