About the role
We are seeking a Lead Inspector for our Transportation-Construction Management (T-CM) practice in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, be a team player, is enthusiastic, motivated, honest, and dependable.
Responsibilities
- Maintain detailed records of the contractor’s daily operations including manpower, equipment, construction methods, and events that affect the work
- Monitor the work zone traffic control plan and identify discrepancies and potential issues
- Monitor the erosion control plan and identify discrepancies and potential issues
- Perform sampling and testing of component materials and completed work
- Verify the dimensions of prepared and completed work
- Inspect the construction work and conduct field tests
- Track/measure completed work quantities for payment
- Manage the team of inspectors, coordinate their schedules, and oversee their work and records
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant experience
- Experience in construction inspection, including exposure to bridge and/or roadway construction inspection, or a degree in civil engineering
- Supervised multiple inspectors and been directly responsible for all inspection requirements related to the construction operations assigned
- A current MDOT Certification
- A valid driver's license, be insurable, and be able to safely operate a vehicle on the highway and on construction sites
- A passion for working outside and a tolerance for exposure to the elements
- Advanced organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, communication, and leadership skills
- The ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with others
Qualifications
