Lead Cashier

About the Role

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. This role assists in training new cashiers and cross-training associates while driving loyalty results through performance, people, and process excellence. The LC supports the leadership team with register functions, associate exit inspections, and cashier chat in/outs, ensuring exceptional guest experiences and operational compliance.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals for retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink.
• Provide exceptional guest service by greeting and engaging guests, personalizing service, and recommending Ulta Beauty products/services.
• Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
• Pair guests with associates for makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales.
• Book appointments for services and in-store events to deliver an unrivaled guest experience while meeting sales goals.
• Maintain cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures to ensure guest-readiness.
• Support leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to meet individual and store goals.
• Assist in training new cashiers and cross-training associates in cashiering.
• Drive cashier accountability in delivering a personalized Ulta Beauty brand experience.
• Participate in ongoing training, including brand and category education, for professional development.
• Collaborate with managers and associates to grow the business.
• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Adhere to Ulta Beauty’s dress code.
• Complete transactions, including guest returns and associate transactions, while controlling cash and media per company policies.
• Perform register open/close functions as directed.
• Maintain store cleanliness, including cashwrap, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, and break area.
• Protect company assets and minimize loss through adherence to store standards and operating procedures.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Requirements

• High school diploma preferred.
• 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proven ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
• Demonstrated knowledge and passion for guest service and selling.
• Experience addressing guest concerns promptly and professionally.
• Demonstrated experience in exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

Skills

• Proficient with basic technology (e.g., Point of Sale system and Apple devices).
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
• Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment in ambiguous situations, and be flexible/adaptable.

Special Position Requirements

• Work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be at least 18 years of age (role cannot be held by a minor).

Working Conditions

• Continuous mobility throughout the store during shift, including twisting.
• Frequent bending, pulling, pushing, crouching, stooping, twisting, and reaching.
• Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs. during shift.
• Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $17.65 - $22.50 per hour. Exact pay will be based on factors including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by applicable law.
