Lead Building Engineer
What this job involves
As Lead Operating Engineer, you'll supervise and direct maintenance personnel in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all base building and critical systems machinery and equipment while providing leadership for the operating team onsite. This position combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, requiring you to provide hands-on training, supervision, and professional development to expand the capabilities of your facilities maintenance staff. You'll manage service requests, implement preventative maintenance programs, ensure equipment operates at peak condition, and maintain a safe workplace that complies with all departmental policies for hazardous materials storage, usage, and disposal.

What your day-to-day will look like
- Supervise and direct maintenance staff on shift, monitoring performance of assigned responsibilities while performing or directing all maintenance departmental service requests with minimal disruption and inconvenience
- Implement and supervise the preventative maintenance program by scheduling maintenance with minimal disruption, delegating tasks to qualified staff, ordering parts and equipment required for repairs and installations, and maintaining inventory
- Perform preventative maintenance and repair service work on HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and various building systems using hands-on skills and industry standard tools in accordance with all codes, laws, and regulations
- Check malfunctioning equipment and ascertain corrective action required to restore satisfactory operating condition while ensuring availability of adequate operating inventory of tools and supplies
- Provide training and supervision to operations staff by demonstrating proper use and care of tools, giving hands-on instruction in maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, recommending outside engineering courses, and instilling professionalism in manner and appearance
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in facility/plant engineering maintenance with 5+ years of experience in supervision/leadership roles
- 2+ years of trade schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration, and HVAC
- Exposure to HVAC, fluid handling/pumping, fluid filtering, mechanical systems, welding, and electrical systems engineering and operation
- Ability to analyze system operations, determine causes of problems, and take corrective action
- Proficiency with computers and software including Microsoft Office Suite with skill in using the Internet to navigate web-based applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with physical ability to lift 50 pounds, bend, sit, kneel, squat, stand, reach, and work in various environmental conditions
Preferred qualifications
- Stationary Engineer License
- Universal EPA 608 Certification
