Lead Bridge Engineer
About the role
This position will provide you with the opportunity to grow your technical knowledge of structural engineering and develop your project management experience on bridge projects. Responsibilities
- Assist with concept development, planning, design, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements
- Substantiates reports and documentation regarding material, installations, and construction specifications
- Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality
- Mentor, train, and develop staff and others performing similar work
- Provide close coordination with others on the project as well as independent QC/QA reviews
- Work with marketing staff to contribute to and/or lead technical proposals
- Represent WSP at targeted professional society meetings, including presenting at conferences as appropriate and approved
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
- P.E. registration in Michigan and ability to acquire in other states
- 5 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in Structural Engineering with an emphasis on bridges
- Strong technical skills and background in bridge design
- Accustomed to working in a team environment on challenging projects and leading design teams in delivering high quality projects
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
- Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, , ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired
