Lead Automotive Technician
About the role
This position requires applicants to have a valid state drivers license, a safe driving record, and at least two years of unsupervised experience driving passenger cars or larger. Applicants must also meet medical suitability, general eligibility, and suitability requirements, and pass a background check.
Responsibilities
- Successfully complete Postal Service Test 943 and Test 944 to demonstrate knowledge and ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and make minor and major repairs to automotive systems.
- Knowledge of electrical/ignition systems including terminology, characteristics, and operation of components such as alternators, batteries, voltage regulators, starter motors, ignition and lighting systems, indicating devices, electronic computer enhanced components, sensors, and starting aids.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in automotive components or systems, including observing, testing, analyzing, and isolating sources of trouble in systems or their components like electrical/electronic systems, engine, power train, fuel delivery, suspension, and braking systems.
- Ability to use automotive test equipment, including voltage/amperage testers (VAT), multimeters (VOM), test lights, scanners, gas analyzers, etc.
- Ability to make minor and major repairs to automotive components or systems, such as replacing parts, making adjustments, and rebuilding systems or components like electrical/ignition, emissions, fuel delivery, engine, suspensions, power train, braking systems, intake, exhaust, and starting aids.
- Ability to prepare paperwork, recording information and data to complete forms related to the operation of a facility.
- Ability to work with others, performing duties safely and efficiently in cooperation with fellow employees to test and repair electrical/electronic and mechanical problems using appropriate diagnostic equipment and/or procedures.
- Ability to work without immediate supervision, planning and executing work activities independently.
