About the Role
My client is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead Associate Tunnel Engineer with a minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience to join their team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of tunnel, underground facility, and water/wastewater infrastructure projects, while supporting business development initiatives and expanding our presence within the New England market.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design, and delivery of tunnel and underground infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater facilities.
- Support and drive business development activities, client engagement, and project pursuits throughout the New England region.
- Manage multidisciplinary project teams and provide technical leadership on complex underground engineering assignments.
- Prepare and review engineering studies, technical reports, design calculations, and project documentation.
- Develop contract documents, including engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction packages.
- Review contractor submittals, requests for information (RFIs), shop drawings, and other construction-related documentation.
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technical staff, fostering professional development and technical excellence.
- Cook up office and field activities, including site visits, inspections, and construction support services.
- Ensure adherence to established quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
- Master's Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Massachusetts, or the ability to obtain licensure within one year of employment.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in the planning, design, and delivery of tunnel and underground infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing the design of complex underground engineering projects.
- Proven business development experience and established industry relationships within the water and wastewater infrastructure sector.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments, priorities, schedules, and budgets.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing junior engineering staff.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and maintain strong client relationships.
Preferred Experience
- Design and construction support for water conveyance tunnels, wastewater tunnels, shafts, deep excavations, and underground structures.
- Experience with trenchless technologies, tunnelling methods, and underground construction practices.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements applicable to water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Established professional network within the New England engineering and infrastructure market.
