For our client, a leader in the Media space, we are seeking a Lead Applied Scientist in Search & Information Retrieval. This role supports financial strategy, forecasting, and performance management initiatives that strengthen business visibility and decision-making. You will partner with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to improve planning processes, financial discipline, controls, and resource allocation, influencing enterprise performance and scalable financial operations.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Responsibilities
- Design and deploy search architectures for large-scale legal and tax content
- Build and optimize ingestion pipelines for document retrieval
- Develop ranking systems using traditional IR and LLM techniques
- Enhance retrieval quality through semantic and hybrid search
- Establish evaluation frameworks for retrieval performance
- Lead technical decisions on indexing and retrieval strategies
- Collaborate with engineering teams for scalable search services
- Contribute insights on search and AI strategy to senior leadership
Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Information Retrieval, AI, Machine Learning, NLP, or related field preferred
- 8+ years of industry experience in production search and retrieval systems
- Publications at major conferences like SIGIR, ACL, EMNLP, etc.
- Strong production Python skills with experience in PyTorch and Hugging Face Transformers
- Hands-on production experience with search architecture and indexing systems
Pay
$147,600 – $274,200 annually
