Lead AI / ML Engineer

About the role
We’re looking to grow our Responsible AI team. As a Responsible AI Engineer, you’ll build state-of-the-art models to solve difficult business challenges while addressing responsible aspects such as AI model fairness, transparency, explainability, robustness, soundness, and privacy—preferably with client-facing experience. You’ll be a problem solver passionate about data, excited by modeling challenges, and thrive in a collaborative environment. You’ll help make our Responsible AI vision a reality for clients, ensuring AI technology is used equitably, ethically, and technically sound.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement AI models and solutions, focusing on ethical and responsible practices.
- Detect, evaluate, and apply relevant Responsible AI dimensions (bias, fairness, robustness, explainability) in AI systems; mitigate identified risks.
- Support client sales conversations and proposal preparation.
- Optimize and maintain existing AI systems for enhanced performance and adherence to ethical standards.
- Participate in the full AI development lifecycle: data preparation, design, coding, testing, deployment, and support.
- Contribute to internal guidelines, best practices for responsible AI development, and technical training.
- Stay updated with current AI trends, ethical considerations, and technological advancements.
- Assist in identifying and correcting biases in datasets and AI models.
- Document AI development processes and maintain transparent records of decisions and methodologies.
- Travel may be required (0–100% depending on business need and client requirements).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or related technical field (or equivalent work experience: 12 years for Bachelor’s, 6 years for Associate’s).
- Minimum 6 years of experience developing and deploying machine learning models and AI solutions.
- Experience in at least 2 of the following: Statistics and Probability Theory, Regression Modelling, Clustering Methods, Deep Learning, Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing, Text Mining, Computer Vision, Image Recognition, Time Series Forecasting, Machine Learning Visualization Tools, Tree Ensembles.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, R, or Java.
- Familiarity with AI and machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Experience with big data technologies and tools (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Database management and data processing skills.
- Understanding and working knowledge of cloud services and platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) related to AI.

- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.

Bonus Qualifications
- Additional courses or training in responsible AI, ethics in technology, or similar fields.
- Certifications in AI, machine learning, or data science.
- 6+ years of experience in projects focused on ethical AI or AI for social good.
- Knowledge of AI ethics, data privacy, and regulatory frameworks.
- 6+ years of experience with AI model interpretability and explainability tools.
- Specialized visualization techniques (e.g., D3.js, ggplot).
- 6+ years of project management experience.
- Linguistic proficiency (business level) in a language other than English.
Pay
Compensation varies by location, role, skill set, and experience. The following ranges are provided as required by local law (posting valid until 09/30/2026):
- California: $94,400 to $293,800
- Cleveland: $87,400 to $235,000
- Colorado: $94,400 to $253,800
- District of Columbia: $100,500 to $270,300
- Illinois: $87,400 to $253,800
- Maine: $80,400 to $216,200
- Maryland: $94,400 to $253,800
- Massachusetts: $94,400 to $270,300
- Minnesota: $94,400 to $253,800
- New York: $87,400 to $293,800
- New Jersey: $100,500 to $293,800
- Virginia: $87,400 to $270,300
