MassMutual is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to help design, deploy, and scale advanced AI solutions across the enterprise. This role combines generative AI, agentic AI, LLM systems, rigorous evaluation, and production engineering.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, deployment, and production scaling of advanced AI solutions
- Architect and deliver generative AI, agentic AI, and LLM-based systems
- Use rigorous scientific methods to solve complex, high-value enterprise problems
- Build end-to-end AI solutions from ideation through production deployment and monitoring
- Design and conduct evaluations of AI system performance
- Perform experimentation, benchmarking across foundation models, and quantitative analysis
- Drive innovation by translating cutting-edge research into practical applications
- Establish team-wide best practices in AI development and responsible AI deployment
- Build rapid prototypes to test and validate AI approaches
- Deliver production-grade AI-powered applications such as intelligent interfaces, dashboards, and automated workflows
- Collaborate with engineering teams to build robust AI pipelines and APIs
- Influence senior leadership by aligning AI initiatives with enterprise strategy
- Communicate complex technical concepts and findings in clear, actionable terms
- Mentor and develop junior talent
- Foster technical excellence, scientific rigor, and continuous learning across the team
- Accountability for reliability, performance, and maintainability
- Work across enterprise use cases
- Partner closely with technology and business stakeholders across the organization
- Operate at the intersection of cutting-edge research and enterprise delivery
- Support shared technical standards
- Value peer learning, candid feedback, and collaboration
- Participate in regular meetings with the AI & Data Science team
- Engage with Business Resource Groups focused on Asian, Hispanic/Latinx, African American, women, LGBTQIA+, veteran, and disability communities

Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or AI engineering
- Track record of delivering impactful AI/ML solutions at scale
- Experience building, deploying, and scaling production AI systems
- Strong programming skills in Python
- Familiarity with clean, well-tested, production-quality code
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and other orchestration and deployment frameworks
- M.S. in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related quantitative field
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent years of relevant professional experience)
