Lead AI Engineer

About the role
Homeland Talent Solutions has partnered with a global leader in cloud-based K-12 education technology to hire a Lead AI Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lead AI Engineer to play a key role in designing, building, and deploying production-grade artificial intelligence solutions that transform how organizations leverage AI. Working within a collaborative Research & Development team, the Lead AI Engineer will lead the development of agentic AI workflows, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) applications, workflow automation, and enterprise integrations while driving innovation from concept through deployment.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy production-grade AI solutions, including agentic AI workflows and customer-facing AI products
- Develop scalable AI systems such as multi-agent workflows, agentic data workflows, RAG-based applications, document intelligence and summarization pipelines, and workflow automation solutions
- Utilize modern AI tools and frameworks, including Copilot, Codex, Claude Code, Gemini, NotebookLM, Strands, LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or similar technologies
- Rapidly prototype, validate, and deploy AI solutions in an agile, fast-paced environment
- Translate business challenges into scalable AI solutions that deliver measurable value
- Design lightweight system architectures and iterate quickly based on user feedback
- Develop prompt engineering strategies, orchestration logic, API integrations, data pipelines, and testing, validation, and monitoring frameworks
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to refine AI solutions, improve adoption, and ensure successful implementation
- Deliver continuous product enhancements through weekly or bi-weekly releases
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal bureaucracy, strong accountability, and a focus on execution
- Build and maintain reusable AI assets, including prompt libraries, agent design patterns, and integration utilities
- Establish and promote best practices for prompt engineering, AI development, testing, evaluation, governance, and responsible AI usage
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to AI engineers and automation specialists
- Lead by example through hands-on design, development, and deployment of AI solutions
- Support the growth and evolution of the AI engineering function by driving technical excellence and innovation
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field
- 6–10+ years of software engineering experience, including recent hands-on experience developing AI and large language model (LLM) solutions
- Proven experience designing, building, and deploying production-grade:
- LLM-powered applications
- Agentic AI workflows
- AI-driven automation solutions
- Experience deploying applications in cloud environments, including AWS and/or Microsoft Azure
- Strong hands-on experience with modern AI development tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Gemini, NotebookLM, or similar AI-assisted development platforms
- Experience with AI frameworks including LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or equivalent technologies
- Experience with software deployment and release management, preferred
- Knowledge of data engineering principles and data pipeline development, preferred
- Experience designing and implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures and working with vector databases, preferred
- Familiarity with workflow automation platforms and enterprise system integrations, preferred

This position offers a competitive annual salary of $92,800–$170,300, with compensation based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and overall qualifications.
