About the role
We are seeking an AI Automation Lead / Automation Engineer with hands-on expertise in Playwright automation for web, API, and end-to-end testing. The ideal candidate will design scalable automation frameworks from scratch and drive both AI-enabled and traditional automation initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of robust Playwright and Cypress-based automation frameworks for UI, API, and end-to-end validation.
- Drive AI-enabled automation opportunities and traditional automation execution across application teams.
- Create reusable automation assets, coding standards, framework guidelines, and best practices for test engineering teams.
- Partner with product owners, developers, QA teams, and delivery leads to define automation scope, acceptance criteria, test strategy, and regression priorities.
- Integrate automated test suites with CI/CD pipelines and ensure reliable execution, reporting, and defect feedback loops.
- Identify automation candidates, reduce manual test effort, improve regression cycle time, and increase release confidence.
- Enable GenAI / AI agent use cases such as test scenario generation, data creation, defect summarization, script maintenance assistance, and automation productivity improvements.
- Provide technical guidance to offshore/onsite automation engineers, review code, resolve blockers, and ensure engineering quality.
- Track automation KPIs such as coverage, execution stability, pass rate, defect leakage, reuse, and productivity improvement.
- Prepare concise status updates, risks, dependencies, and leadership-level summaries for project stakeholders.
Requirements
- Hands-on expertise in Playwright automation for web, API, and end-to-end testing; ability to design scalable automation frameworks from scratch.
- Strong experience in non-AI test automation using Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or similar tools, with CI/CD pipeline integration.
- Programming skills in JavaScript / TypeScript and/or Java; ability to build reusable utilities, test data handlers, and reporting components.
- API testing experience using REST Assured, Postman, Playwright API testing, or equivalent toolsets.
- Working knowledge of AI-enabled automation, GenAI-assisted test case generation, AI agents, MCP concepts, Copilot, LLM-based productivity accelerators, or intelligent quality engineering solutions.
- Experience with test strategy, automation coverage planning, regression optimization, defect triage, and quality metrics reporting.
- Good understanding of Agile delivery, user stories, acceptance criteria, sprint ceremonies, and collaboration with product/engineering teams.
- Banking, payments, financial services, or regulated enterprise delivery experience preferred.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, analytical thinking, and ownership mindset.
- Ability to lead small to medium automation teams across onsite, offshore, and cross-functional delivery models.
- Experience in planning work, prioritizing deliverables, tracking progress, managing risks, and driving closure.
- Ability to mentor automation engineers and promote engineering discipline, quality-first mindset, and continuous improvement.
