About the role

The Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Interventional Radiology reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. In collaboration with other health professionals, the Lead APP provides high-quality, cost-effective advanced patient care, manages health care systems, and influences health care decision-making through expert clinical reasoning, research, and theory-based practice. This role coordinates the training and onboarding of new Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) within the program and facilitates their professional development. The Lead APP serves as an advocate and voice for APP staff at leadership forums and works closely with practice leadership to provide input on APP performance, evaluation, and competency. This is a hybrid role with a mix of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care to patients demonstrating clinical expertise and advanced knowledge; may perform duties listed in the job description for an APP.
• Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development activities twice per year.
• Collaborates with practice leadership to provide input on APP performance, competency, and work assignments.
• Coaches, trains, mentors, and provides ongoing feedback to APPs in the practice/program.
• Meets 1:1 with APPs in the practice twice per year.
• Monitors access metrics and Quality/Value-Based Care Metrics.
• Serves as a liaison for APP staff with management and service line leadership teams.
• Partners with Medical Director and Director of Operations to advance initiatives aligned with the overall vision of Northwestern Medicine.
• Dotted-line reporting to Director of Operations and Director of Advanced Professional Practice.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in area of specialty.
• Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license (validated through the credentialing process in Medical Staffing).
• Acute care certification required for APRNs (inpatient experience as an NP may be considered in lieu of acute care certification).
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification as specified by the department.
• Controlled substance license and DEA registration as specified by the department.

Qualifications

Preferred: 2 years of experience in Interventional Radiology.
