Purpose
Responsible for a multitude of accounting activities, including review of journal entries and reconciliations, the month end close process and audit preparation; analyze balance sheet accounts and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities by collecting and analyzing account information; ensures that all deliverables comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations for government programs (Medicare & Medicaid), including review of premium revenue, medical claims and administrative expenses.
- Afford assistance in audit preparation, ensuring compliance with GAAP and STAT accounting principles.
- Afford guidance to accounting staff, providing training and performance feedback.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure timeliness of accrual estimates and verification of general ledger data through review and maintenance of monthly reconciliations/analyses of reported activity to source and/or supporting documentation.
- Resolve outstanding issues through research and analysis as well as the initiation of corrective control measures procedural or transactional.
- Apply analytical accounting software tools and techniques for compiling, integrating and analyzing data, including trending analyses.
- Provide timely and informative information regarding the status of reconciliations and related projects to management.
- Review of monthly journal entries. This process requires a thorough understanding of the activity to be recorded as well as proficient analysis of the underlying supporting data ensuring that activity is accurately and correctly recorded.
- Contribute to other department and organization special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
- Licenses/Certifications: Preferred Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Experience: 8 years must include experience in development and maintenance of financial reconciliations and related schedules.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the health care industry is helpful and accounting certification (CPA).
- Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs): Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment. Problem solving, analytical and financial modeling skills, with exceptional in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of PC based applications and Microsoft Office. Multi-tasking ability essential to handle multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities and requirements in a rapidly evolving organization.
- Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
