About the Role

To verify specified dimensional measurements on parts to ensure compliance with PCC and industry standards, and customer specifications, using automated coordinate measuring machines (CMM) or conventional measuring devices. Responsibilities include inspecting new and revised tools and fixtures, calibrating and adjusting precision measuring devices, and preparing layout and calibration documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Layout Inspection
    • Identify and interpret casting, wax pattern, fixture, dies, and tool dimensions on blueprints.
    • Construct three-dimensional plane coordinates for measurement reference as defined on blueprints.
    • Complete mathematical calculations, including technical math, analytic geometry, and trigonometry.
    • Measure specified dimensions using a variety of devices; record manually or enter into computerized storage.
    • Input dimensional coordinates into CMM for computerized measurement recording (LPC; non-essential at SSBO).
    • Compare measurements to customer requirements, PCC, and industry standards.
    • Prepare and review layout reports; describe measurements as needed.
    • Evaluate and analyze measurement data with engineering departments.
  • Source Inspection
    • Conduct source inspections at tooling and fixture vendors to verify accuracy and completeness of vendor layout reports and calibrations.
  • Calibration
    • Calibrate and adjust measuring devices, fixtures, and gauges on a scheduled basis.
    • Maintain complete and accurate calibration records as required by PCC and customer specifications.
    • Act as PCC representative in customer and government audits of the calibration program.
  • Safety
    • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
    • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
    • Identify and report safety problems.
    • Complete accurate logs and records.
    • Meet all production and quality standards.
    • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Training

  • Training is provided on the job.
  • Layout inspector certification required.
  • Knowledge and skill-based training required by the department of the plant as directed.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations through Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry; ability to conceptualize abstract geometric relationships; applied understanding of math beyond trigonometry preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow complex, technical specifications found in Technique cards, Quality Control manuals, and Quality Control instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of and competence in interpreting blueprints and a solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Working knowledge of investment casting processes preferred.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Ability to map indications and sketch part features and segments neatly and accurately.
