Law School Clinical Teaching Fellow
Seton Hall University School of Law welcomes applications for a Clinical Teaching Fellowship with the Detention and Deportation Defense Initiative (DDDI) in the Immigrants' Rights/International Human Rights Clinic, beginning in the fall of 2026. About the role
The fellowship is designed to launch the teaching careers of practitioners with at least three to five years of practice experience. The fellow will represent detained clients in immigration and federal court litigation, co-teach with an experienced clinician, and be mentored in pursuit of scholarship interests and goals. The position is hired for 1 year, with the expectation of continuation for an additional 1 or 2 years, dependent on grant funding.
Responsibilities
- Assist Professor Lori Nessel, director of the Immigrants' Rights Clinic.
- Co-supervise students with Professor Nessel and assist with teaching the seminar component of the clinics during the first year.
- Manage a docket of immigration and federal court cases during the summer.
Requirements
- J.D. degree and membership in good standing of the Bar of any state, with the opportunity to apply for admission to New Jersey.
- At least 3 years of legal practice experience.
- Demonstrate potential for teaching excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Legal experience in New Jersey.
- Substantive experience in immigration, federal court litigation, and civil rights.
Pay
$72,000 - $99,000
