About the role
Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy (TLETA) provides service to government agencies through police science and administrative education programs for officers at all levels of responsibility, provides timely and relevant information to officers who attend these training programs, and serves as the center of law enforcement training for all law enforcement officers.
Responsibilities
- Deliver clear, effective instruction on core law enforcement skills and legal requirements
- Create and implement lesson plans aligned with academy standards
- Serve as a model of discipline, integrity, and professionalism
- Apply working knowledge of public safety, Tennessee Code Annotated, court procedures, and police operations
- Use sound training methods and adult learning principles to enhance recruit development
- Evaluate recruit performance and provide constructive, timely feedback
- Maintain strong public speaking, classroom management, and technology skills
- Exercise solid judgment, situational awareness, and adaptability in training environments
- Communicate clearly in writing and speech
- Manage multiple tasks and apply creative problem solving when needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in years of service/experience as an active certified law enforcement officer
- Possess or be able to obtain a Tennessee POST certification
- Minimum of five years of certified full-time law enforcement experience
