Legal Basis

INTERNAL AGENCY OPPORTUNITY - ONLY CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES WILL BE CONSIDERED.

Agricultural Law Enforcement Sergeant Duties

• Directs the daily activities of Law Enforcement Officers under his/her supervision.
• Operates and manages agricultural inspection stations.
• Supervises and enforces agricultural, horticultural, livestock laws, and any criminal matters as specified in Section 570.65, Florida Statutes.
• Supervises and enforces the Bill of Lading Program and any regulatory activities authorized by the Florida Administrative Code.
• Supervises and ensures the proper and timely disposition of all violations and required reports.
• Notifies supervisor(s) of any significant occurrences affecting operations.

Minimum Qualifications

• United States Citizen.
• High School graduate or GED.
• 19 years of age or older.
• Valid driver license with no more than four moving traffic violations within the past three years.
• No conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance within the past five years.
• No refusal to submit to a breath/blood/urine test within the last five years.
• No use of cannabis illegally within the last two years.
• No use of any illegal controlled substance, other than cannabis, within the last five years.
• No conviction of any felony or any misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement.
• No dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
• Good moral character.
• Active law enforcement certificate in compliance with Florida Statute 943.
• Three (3) years of experience in sworn law enforcement or sworn investigations work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Current certification of transition to semi-automatic weapons.
• Knowledge of law enforcement and investigative principles and techniques, forest fire prevention and suppression techniques.
• Knowledge of security and safety principles.
• Skills in planning, organizing and directing the local law enforcement program.
• Skills in the operation of assigned equipment such as: firearms, surveillance equipment, radios and handcuffs.
• Ability to interview suspects and witnesses and to gather and submit physical evidence.

Starting Salary

$70,000.06 - $80,000.18
