Enforces State, County, and Municipal laws, rules, and regulations for the protection and security of persons and property of Clemson University. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Law Enforcement (45%)
    • Patrols assigned area to detect violations and enforce State, County, and Municipal laws, rules, and regulations for the protection and security of persons and property of Clemson University.
    • Directs pedestrian and vehicular traffic; installs and removes traffic control devices as needed.
    • Issues summons and takes enforcement action when needed; participates in traffic safety programs and initiatives.
    • Exercises arrest powers as appropriate; completes booking reports, fingerprints, and photographs.
    • Responds to disturbances, performs investigations, collects evidence, and completes reports.
    • Works flexible schedules—day and/or night, rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and special events—based on department needs.
  • Investigating and Crime Scene Management (25%)
    • Investigates complaints and interviews victims, witnesses, and participants.
    • Photographs and sketches crime scenes; collects evidence and informs superiors.
    • Works field incidents to completion and conducts follow-up investigations as needed.
  • Civic Responsibilities (20%)
    • Performs duties associated with crime prevention; assists disabled motorists.
    • Reports safety hazards; prepares police reports and other activity reports.
    • Conducts public outreach/engagement activities.
    • Practices modern, community-oriented policing concepts and supports the CUPD/Residential Life Housing Liaison and CUPD Affinity Group Liaison programs.
  • Administrative Support (10%)
    • Prepares cases for court presentation; presents cases in the Clemson University Municipal Court.
    • Forwards documents for Circuit Court cases to the Solicitor’s Office and testifies in court.

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Valid Class D driver’s license.
    • 0–3+ years of relevant work experience.
    • Must pass a background investigation.
    • Must obtain Class I LEO Certification from the SC Criminal Justice Academy within 1 year of hire.
    • Must complete the department Police Training Officer (PTO) Program within 1 year of hire.
  • Preferred Requirements
    • Associate’s degree.
    • SCCJA Class I LEO Certification.

Pay

$53,190.45 – $61,574.33

Schedule

Flexible schedules—day and/or night, rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and special events—based on the needs of the department.
