Law Enforcement Liaison Clinician

About The Role

The Law Enforcement Liaison Clinician will work with the core emergency services team and law enforcement to identify clients in need of services and take a more proactive approach in meeting program demands. The overall goals are to reduce unnecessary Emergency Department utilization, assist in diverting inpatient psychiatric admissions by providing counseling and therapeutic support to clients in crisis, with the emphasis on reducing unnecessary interactions with law enforcement to decrease incarceration rates and overutilization of other Emergency personnel. This position is responsible for providing mental health crisis assessment, intervention, and brief treatment services to a diverse population of clients in crisis. In addition, the crisis clinician will provide appropriate recommendations for care and linkage services for clients requiring ongoing treatment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with core crisis team and law enforcement to provide support to clients in crisis, reduce unnecessary interactions with law enforcement or the criminal justice system.
• Collaborate with core crisis team to identify clients currently in crisis, or at risk of going into crisis, to better assess overall needs and assist them in meeting those needs.
• Assist in reducing unnecessary Emergency Department utilization by clients with primary mental health needs.
• Work with Agency staff to provide appropriate level of support in an effort to reduce inpatient psychiatric admissions.
• Proactively reach out to identified clients who are at risk of relapse or mental health crisis.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in clinical psychology, social work, or related field is preferred; Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Experience working in crisis, emergency room, or community-based services preferred.
• Demonstrates knowledge of psychopathology, crisis theory, and other behavioral health concerns and primary modalities of psychotherapeutic intervention.
• Experience in crisis intervention services, risk management, assessment of suicide potential, and integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders preferred.
• Ability to join with clients and families in distress and work with them in disposition planning.
• Must be willing to provide services in clients' homes and community settings.
• Must be available to work shifts as assigned, including overnights and weekends.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation with personal automobile liability insurance coverage at or above the levels mandated by the State of Vermont.
• Successful completion of a criminal history background check after hire.
