Law Clerk

About the role

The successful candidate will join Hennessy & Roach, P.C., a law firm specializing in Workers’ Compensation and General Liability defense. Located in Chicago, with additional offices in various Midwest cities, the firm handles cases across Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

• Legal research and writing assignments as requested by attorneys
• Aid in the file opening process
• Maintain daily calendar and computer files
• Ensure tasks are completed timely and properly documented
• Review and docket mail and other related documents pertaining to General Liability or worker’s compensation cases
• Assist attorney with filing of Circuit Court and Appellate briefs and motions
• Ensure documents are properly delivered to the appropriate venue
• Keep cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software
• Make sure filing is done and up to date
• Accomplish organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
• Maintain records attendant to court proceedings

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Currently enrolled in Law School, preferably 2L or 3L
• Familiarity with Westlaw
• Working knowledge of court rules and procedures
• Microsoft Word and Outlook experience required; Excel and Perfect Law experience preferred
• Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills
