Law and Motion Associate

About the role

O’Melveny & Myers LLP is seeking outstanding 5th to 7th year associates with deep law and motion experience to lead pre-trial advocacy and serve as embedded appellate counsel during trial. Ideal candidates will have a track record of excellence in brief writing, case management, and managing complex litigation workflows across large multi-member teams. This role offers high-profile ownership opportunities and close collaboration with trial teams to shape case strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead law and motion practice in advance of trial, including dispositive motions, evidentiary motions, jury instructions, and verdict forms.
• Serve as embedded appellate counsel on trial teams, partnering with trial counsel to preserve issues for appeal, develop legal strategy, and lead complex briefing.
• Manage multiple significant matters simultaneously with sound judgment and competing deadlines.
• Coordinate across large teams and supervise junior attorneys.
• Communicate effectively with partners, clients, experts, and co-counsel.

Requirements

• 5th to 7th year associate experience with strong law and motion background.
• Excellent academic credentials and demonstrated excellence in brief writing and case management.
• Proven ability to manage complex litigation workflows and coordinate across multiple teams.
• Experience working in large multi-member teams and managing law and motion teams specifically for trial.
• Preferred experience with MDLs, bellwether trials, coordinated state court proceedings, and embedded appellate roles.
• Experience in product liability and mass tort litigation is a plus.
• Prior clerkship experience preferred.

Pay

The salary range in New York for this role is $310,000 – $390,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
