Law and Motion Associate
About the role
O'Melveny & Myers LLP is looking for outstanding associates (5th to 7th year) with law and motion experience. We are seeking candidates who can lead law and motion work in advance of trial and serve as embedded appellate counsel at trial. This position offers significant opportunities to take ownership of high-profile litigation, work closely with trial teams, and develop as a strategic leader in complex cases.
Responsibilities
- Lead law and motion work in advance of trial
- Serve as embedded appellate counsel at trial, partnering closely with trial counsel to preserve issues for appeal
- Develop legal strategy and lead briefing on complex legal issues
- Manage complex litigation workflows and coordinate across multiple teams
- Help drive strategy in cases proceeding toward trial
- Supervise junior attorneys
- Communicate effectively with partners, clients, experts, and co-counsel
Requirements
- 5th to 7th year associate
- Excellent academic credentials
- Demonstrated experience in brief writing and case management
- Proficiency with all forms of written advocacy at the trial level—including dispositive motions, evidentiary motions, jury instructions, and verdict forms
- Experience working with large multi-member teams
- Ability to manage multiple significant matters simultaneously
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and manage competing deadlines
Qualifications
- Experience managing law and motion teams specifically for trial
- Experience working on MDLs, bellwether trials, and coordinated state court proceedings
- Experience serving in embedded appellate roles
- Demonstrated leadership experience on matters
- Experience in the product liability and mass tort space (preferred)
- Clerkships (preferred)
Pay
The salary range in San Francisco for this role is $310,000 - $390,000 and represents the firm's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, and location.
