Law and Motion Associate

About the role

O’Melveny & Myers LLP is seeking outstanding 5th to 7th year associates with law and motion experience to lead pre-trial advocacy and serve as embedded appellate counsel during trial. Ideal candidates will have excellent academic credentials, demonstrated brief-writing and case management skills, and the ability to manage complex litigation workflows across large multi-member teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead law and motion work in advance of trial, including dispositive motions, evidentiary motions, jury instructions, and verdict forms.
• Serve as embedded appellate counsel on trial teams, partnering with trial counsel to preserve issues for appeal, develop legal strategy, and lead briefing on complex legal issues.
• Manage multiple significant matters simultaneously and coordinate across large teams.
• Exercise sound judgment, manage competing deadlines, supervise junior attorneys, and communicate effectively with partners, clients, experts, and co-counsel.

Requirements

• 5th to 7th year associate experience.
• Proven proficiency in all forms of written advocacy at the trial level.
• Experience managing law and motion teams for trial, including MDLs, bellwether trials, and coordinated state court proceedings.
• Demonstrated leadership experience on matters and the ability to drive strategy in cases proceeding toward trial.
• Preferred: clerkship experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience serving in embedded appellate roles during trial.
• Experience in the product liability and mass tort space.
