Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record (ability to drive organization vehicles)
- Previous laundry, housekeeping, or custodial experience preferred
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to communicate written and/or verbal information about an individual's condition or job duties
- Ability to work well with others
- Knowledge of organization sanitation, infection control, and safety processes and policies
- Ability to understand and follow written and/or oral directions and instructions
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn specialized software
- Good sanitary habits
- Ability to read, write, and perform simple math
Responsibilities
- Maintain current knowledge of safety, sanitation, and infection control guidelines and follow them accordingly
- Operate washers and dryers according to operating instructions
- Remove lint from dryer filters
- Measure and appropriately use laundry chemicals
- Properly use, clean, and maintain laundry equipment to ensure it remains in good working order
- Sort, weigh, and document the weight of clothing and linens prior to laundering
- Fold, sort, and place laundered items in designated areas
- Transport soiled and clean clothing and linens to and from the laundry while following established guidelines
- Follow all garment and linen washing and handling instructions
- Follow department policies and procedures for all cleaning and laundry tasks
- Follow isolation and infection control procedures
- Assist in ensuring individuals' clothing is properly labeled and in good repair
- Observe stained garments and pre-soak and launder them appropriately
- Transport waste to designated areas
- Clean and sanitize equipment and work areas
- Order and fill supplies as needed
- Report equipment repairs immediately to the Environmental Services Supervisor or Maintenance Department
- Work with the Environmental Services Supervisor to ensure clothing is properly identified, maintained in good repair, and deletions are documented
- Move into other areas within the department and perform duties as needed
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Schedule & Work Environment
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, as needed
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
- Must frequently stand, move throughout the facility, operate laundry and cleaning equipment, and use hands and arms for sorting, inspecting, cleaning, drying, folding, and storing laundry
- Must occasionally climb a stool or ladder while performing laundry, custodial, or inventory tasks
- The majority of work is performed indoors, but the position requires transporting laundry outdoors
- May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration, potentially toxic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, and potential bloodborne pathogens
- Personal protective equipment may be required when working with potential bloodborne pathogens
- The noise level is generally moderate but may occasionally be loud
This position reports directly to the Environmental Services Supervisor and does not directly supervise other personnel.
