Summary This position performs work as a Laundry Worker for the Battle Creek VA Medical Center - Facilities Management Service - Environmental Management Services. The primary work involves receiving - sorting - and marking linen and apparel in the Linen Distribution. Qualifications To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required - but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element - which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Duties The primary work involves receiving - sorting - and marking linen and apparel in the Linen DistributionThe incumbent is responsible for receiving and sorting linen - transporting linen to and from the post laundry to using areas - assuring the availability of an adequate supply of linens and issuing the linen - and issuing uniforms/scrubs/patient clothing - marking - and sizing to meet customer's needsReceives linen from the consolidated laundry in carts or other approved devices - unused linen from laundry carts and hampers from the wards and all other using areasReceives clean linen and delivers it where directed - using a government delivery truckStocks linen carts - hampers - and special delivery bags for delivery to using areas according to predetermined quotas and requests from the using areasRecords all linen sent to using areasAdjusts linen quotas as needed coordinating the changes in quotas with the supervisor or designee of the using areaStocks shelves with excess linen for use as neededLinen will be sorted according to type and class and placed in the proper areaAssists in linen inventory by counting all linen received in the linen distribution room during the time of inventoryRecords the item counted according to type - class and size and submits completed count to the supervisorCleans and disinfects laundry hampers - shelves - and equipment using proper cleaning methodsLoads and offloads delivery truck with linen and delivers the linen to the using area returning with the empty carts and hampers for transport to the consolidated designated pick-up pointReceives - inventories - stores - delivers - and releases personal effects/uniforms/scrubs/lab coats according to proceduresMarks patient clothing/scrubs/uniforms/lab coats as neededChecks number of items against actual items submittedUses established procedures to select correct number sequenceChecks number of items against actual items submittedLogs and maintains records - verifies items according to procedures for record keeping purposesInventories items and verifies countSecures all items according to appropriate procedureChecks G&L for patient informationFiles information including data cards - inventories and other administrative itemsMarks and color codes all patient clothing - delivers to area assigned when completedConducts routine audits of storage area and linenPerforms other related duties as assignedWork Schedule: Monday-Friday - 7:00am-3:30pmEmployee may be required to work weekends and/or holidaysTours changes may be performed to meet the needs of the Medical CenterPosition Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD91113A Physical Requirements: Stands/ walks/bends/stoops continuously on concrete floorsNeeds a certain amount of quickness in hand and arm movements to meet production standardsMost of the jobs require lifting of bundles weighing over (25 lbs.)
