Laundry Attendant

About the role

The purpose of this position is to provide quality service of washing hospital linen and patient clothing in a timely manner. This is a full-time position with rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; if none, must obtain GED within six months from date of hire.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning principles, use of cleaning products, and operation of standard cleaning equipment.
• Record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment, evidenced by positive employment references addressing:
  • Positive working relationships with others
  • High ethical standards and no history of complaints
  • Reliability and dependability; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences
• Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work with little or no supervision.
• Current valid driver’s license without restrictions, maintained throughout employment.
• Knowledge and adherence to safety and infection control rules, regulations, and standards.
• Completion of and above-satisfactory scores on all job interviews.
• Successful completion of background and reference checks, fingerprint clearance, physical examinations, and other screenings.
• Submission of all required employment-related documents free of false, misleading, or incomplete information.

Responsibilities

• Receive hospital dirty linen; maintain a system of linen control and distribution; deliver clean linen to the hospital linen room.
• Collect soiled linen and separate by description (e.g., bath blankets, bedspreads, sheets, towels, gowns, scrubs, isolation gowns).
• Load dirty linen into washer machines, clean and disinfect washers after each use.
• Transfer washed linen to dryers, disinfect dryers after each load to eliminate cross-contamination.
• Clean and disinfect laundry bins after each use.
• Sweep and mop the facility to prevent lint buildup.
• Pick up dirty linen from the hospital, deliver it to the laundry building, and return clean linen to the main hospital storage room.
• Sort and package clean linen for delivery; clean laundry trucks and carts with approved disinfectant after each use.
• Wear proper PPE at all times, including face masks, gloves, gowns, NIOSH-approved N95 respirators (or higher), and eye or face shields.
• Complete donning and doffing of PPE safely and discard used PPE appropriately.
• Complete routine cleaning and decontamination tasks for surfaces contaminated by communicable diseases.
• Follow House Supervisor’s and Department Manager’s PPE requirements for “red zone” tasks and callbacks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Physical:
  • Occasionally sit, drive, climb, kneel, and cough.
  • Frequently bend, twist, reach, stand, walk, and maintain balance for prolonged periods.
  • Lift up to 24–34 lbs for prolonged periods, frequently lift up to 75 lbs, and occasionally lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Push/pull up to 75 lbs for prolonged periods and occasionally over 100 lbs.
  • Near vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to see fine details; occasional far vision and hearing overhead pages.
  • Prolonged simple and firm grasping, fine manipulation, and occasional keyboard use.
• Mental:

Environmental Conditions

• Exposure to infectious diseases, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, and loud noises for a majority of the shift.
• Frequent exposure to extremes in temperature or humidity, hazardous or moving equipment, and unprotected heights.
