About the role
The Laundry Attendant is responsible for receiving dirty linen, loading it into washing machines, transferring linen to dryers and then removing it accordingly. Either hand‑fold all linen or feed it through an ironer and automatic folder where applicable. Dry‑folded linen will be neatly positioned and stacked in a clean laundry cart for removal and subsequent delivery to the client hotel for use. Operate the washing and drying machines, avoiding over‑loading and monitoring proper detergent mix and cycle length. Inspect linens coming from dryers for softness, cleanliness and quality.
Responsibilities
- Attend daily pre‑shift meeting in the housekeeping department.
- Empty dirty linen from linen carts into a scale cart, ensuring the weight matches washing‑machine capacity and detergent mix.
- Load weighed dirty linen into the washing machine, set controls, then unload, weigh, and load the next cart load as per the day’s laundry demand.
- After washing, unload the load and transfer it to a dryer, confirming the load weight matches dryer capacity and setting appropriate drying controls.
- Upon drying completion, remove linens and hand‑fold them (team of two for bed linens or individually for bath terry), taking care not to discolor the cleaned linens.
- Monitor cleanliness and softness of linens, discussing any corrective actions with the Laundry Supervisor.
- Position clean‑linen carts outside the folding area and queue them for pickup by the delivery truck driver, ensuring linens from different hotels are not mixed.
- Process carts throughout the shift in a manufacturing‑line fashion, cycling loading, unloading, and folding.
- Leave the work area and machinery clean, organized, and functional at shift end to enable the next shift to start promptly.
- Report any machine problems to the Laundry Supervisor.
Skills
- Good work ethic, attitude, and practice.
- Reliability for punctual attendance.
