About the role
The Payroll Records Clerk performs complex and technical work involving the preparation and maintenance of centralized, countywide employee payroll and personnel records. Other duties include responding to payroll and benefit inquiries, explaining payroll transactions and procedures, maintaining countywide payroll records, and performing other related duties as required.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain centralized, countywide employee payroll and personnel records.
- Respond to payroll and benefit inquiries from departmental supervisory and payroll personnel.
- Explain payroll transactions and procedures.
- Maintain countywide payroll records for the County Central Payroll unit.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Either 1 year full-time experience in the class of Clerk II or an equivalent or higher level class in the Alameda County classified service.
- Or 2 years full-time clerical work experience requiring mathematical computations at a level comparable to a Payroll Records Clerk in the Alameda County classified service.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic personnel and payroll transactions.
- Modern office practices and procedures including business correspondence, filing, and standard equipment operations.
- Basic computer applications for automated payroll systems and electronic data processing.
- Ability to operate 10-key adding machine.
- To utilize county-wide personnel and payroll computer system.
- To read, interpret and apply rules, regulations and written directions.
- To identify and correct a variety of errors.
- To perform mathematical computations.
- To demonstrate interpersonal sensitivity.
- To analyze and problem-solve.
- To maintain accurate records.
- To make decisions, use good judgment and initiative.
- To research resource documents to respond to questions.
- To communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- To manage files, manual and computerized.
