Lateral Police Officer

Hiring Bonus: $10,000, payable as $5,000 upon hire and $5,000 upon successful completion of probationary period. Termination within three years voids the bonus.

About the Role

The Fife Police Department partners with the community to ensure public safety and solve problems. Applicants must have a minimum of two (2) years satisfactory performance in a like position within the last 24 months and be a citizen of the United States with a valid Washington State Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Provide pro-active police protection and other services to safeguard citizens' lives, property, and constitutional rights.
• Drive patrol vehicle, investigate suspicious activities, and take appropriate action.
• Respond to crime and accident scenes, emergency situations, and requests for assistance.
• Prepare formal reports and testify in court.
• Communicate with other City personnel, law enforcement agencies, and health care providers.
• Maintain proficiency in driving and the use of firearms.
• Participate in in-service training programs and conduct law enforcement classes.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Minimum of two (2) years satisfactory performance in a like position within the last 24 months.
• Minimum age 21 years.
• Citizen of the United States with a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
• Successfully complete the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
• Pass a polygraph test, psychological exam, medical exam, and a financial review.
• Must be without pending or prior convictions of domestic violence, felony convictions, and no disqualifying misdemeanor convictions.
• Valid CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Lateral applicants who have not been certified through WSCJTC will need to provide their basic training academy curriculum/syllabus hours as part of their application.

• Knowledge of operation of a variety of specialized police vehicles and equipment.

• Ability to protect the lives, property, and constitutional rights of the citizens of Fife.
• Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
• Ability to present evidence and testimony in court.
• Ability to maintain current knowledge of the law and modern law enforcement techniques.
• Ability to respond to crime and emergency scenes and take immediate and appropriate action.
• Ability to maintain proficiency in driving and in the use of firearms in accordance with departmental guidelines.
• Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
• Ability to participate in specialized programs and assignments to support police-related activities and community relations.
