Lateral Police Officer

About the role

The City of Bellevue Police Department seeks experienced Lateral Police Officers. These officers must hold a valid and current peace officer certificate from a state recognized by the State of Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission and have at least two years of consecutive police experience.

Responsibilities

• Patrol designated areas in various vehicles to maintain law and order.
• Handle emergencies, accidents, and complaints.
• Investigate incidents, gather evidence, and make arrests.
• Communicate with the public and provide information on laws and ordinances.
• Testify in court and present evidence.
• Administer first aid in emergency situations.
• Prepare detailed written reports of investigations.
• Perform related tasks as required.

Requirements

• Possess a valid and current peace officer certificate from a state recognized by the State of Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission.
• Have more than two consecutive years of full-time employment as a Police Officer, with no more than 60 months break in service.
• Be at least 21 years old at the time of application.
• Be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident, or DACA recipient with employment authorization from USCIS.
• Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
• Speak, read, and write in the English language.
• Be in excellent physical condition.
• Possess or be able to obtain and retain a Washington State driver's license.
• Pass a background investigation, including a complete criminal records check, polygraph examination, and psychological examination.
• Successfully complete a medical examination per the Public Safety Civil Service Commission standards.
• Meet minimum vision acuity standards with soft contact lenses.

Qualifications

• At least 21 years of age at the time of application.
• Valid and current peace officer certificate from a state recognized by the State of Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission.
• Two or more years of consecutive police experience.
• No more than 24 months break in service from when you left your last police officer position to the time of submitting your application with the Bellevue Police Department.

Pay

Pay is commensurate with experience, internal equity, and market.

Schedule

Police Officers work a regular schedule, including traditional holidays and personal days.

Supplemental Information

Disqualifiers

• Driving violations within the past 5 years.
• Drug usage, including illegal opiate use, misuse of prescription drugs, and illegal drug distribution/sales.
• Adult felony convictions, juvenile felony convictions within the past 5 years, and involvement in significant misdemeanor activity.
• Pattern of thefts, commission of any crime of violence, or sexual offenses within the past five years.
• Failure to pay income tax or court ordered child support.
