Position Summary
The Latchkey Assistant is responsible for assisting in all Latchkey programs.
Essential Responsibilities
- Aid the latchkey director in all activities.
- Be present during assigned latchkey program hours.
- Drive bus or corps van to drop off or pick up children from school as needed.
- Ensure the care and well-being of program participants.
- Identify and meet individual program participants' needs.
- Provide friendly hospitality to those served.
- Recognize and provide opportunities for group interaction, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Guide groups or individuals in activity plans.
- Enforce facility safety regulations and implement emergency procedures.
- Clean tables and vacuum carpets as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of High School diploma/GED desired, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Training and/or education experience in youth programming, ministry, and/or social services preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must meet all Michigan Department of Human Service (DHS) guidelines for childcare center program assistants.
- Previous experience in childcare is desirable.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Computer Skills: Working in Microsoft Office 365, working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint, willingness to learn new software as needed.
- Certificates and Licenses: Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed. Must have and maintain a current valid chauffeurs’ license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR); or gain chauffeurs’ license within 30 days. Ability to obtain and maintain training and certifications such as First Aid, CPR, and Blood Pathogen.
