As a Laser Operator (2nd Shift) at Ryerson, you will be responsible for the setup, operation, and inspection of laser equipment, ensuring that all parts meet specified print standards. Your duties will include starting up and shutting down laser machinery, setting the correct cutting parameters, and safely operating a forklift for material handling. Roles And Responsibilities Set up, operate, and shut down fiber laser cutting equipment while selecting appropriate cutting parameters for material and production requirementsReview work orders, blueprints, and cut files to ensure accurate processing and production outputLoad, unload, and stage materials using forklifts and other material handling equipmentMonitor machine performance, make operational adjustments, and support productivityInspect finished parts using measuring tools to verify compliance with print specifications and document quality or production issuesPerform routine operator-level preventative maintenance and basic machine careIdentify and document quality concerns, material discrepancies, and production issuesPerform operator-level preventative maintenance and routine machine careFollow all safety procedures, policies, and PPE requirementsCollaborate with supervisors, programmers, and production personnel to meet customer and production deadlinesAll other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice Requirements Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills1-3 years of laser operator, CNC machine operator, or similar manufacturing experience preferredMinimum 6 months of manufacturing or production experience requiredAbility to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and production documentsBasic computer skills, including the ability to navigate software systems, enter information, and print documents as neededStrong organizational and problem-solving skillsAbility to accurately use measuring and inspection equipmentRegular attendance and punctuality with the flexibility to work overtime when requiredAbility to safely operate forklifts and material handling equipment or obtain certificationPhysical ability to pass requirements for vision, hearing, mobility, and lifting requirementsCommitment to workplace safety and compliance with all company policies We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and do not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation or preference, and pregnancy), age, national origin, religion, disability or genetic information, marital status, status as a veteran, or any other federal, state or local protected class or artificial barrier.
