About the role
LanguageLine Solutions is a company dedicated to breaking down language and cultural barriers. We employ interpreters to help limited-English speakers, the Deaf, and the Hard-of-Hearing. Our interpreters work remotely, providing services in various industries including healthcare, law enforcement, and finance.
Responsibilities
- Respond to video and audio interpreting sessions promptly and professionally.
- Conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
- Participate in online, video, and audio training sessions.
- Deliver interpretation services via video and expediently type data on a dedicated device.
- Render correct concepts and meanings according to the conventions of established interpretation protocol.
- Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Maintain a professional demeanor throughout the video and audio interpreting sessions.
- Remain calm during video and audio interpreting sessions in the event of incoherent or upset speakers, especially in emergency situations like 911 calls.
- Follow client instructions and ensure client expectations are met.
- Understand protocol and terminology for various industries including medical, insurance, finance, and law.
- Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
Requirements
- Fluency in Laotian and English with a strong understanding of cultural dynamics.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
- Ability to concentrate, stay detached from the conversation, and remain neutral and objective.
- Experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation preferred.
- Able to adapt to any LLS technology enhancements.
- At least 18 years old.
- Licensed to work in the United States.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and write the requested languages preferred.
Qualifications
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must have access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction.
- Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse and remain in a stationary position in front of a computer and webcam for most of the workday.
- Must have sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
- Must be able to lift up to 26 lbs.
- Must be able to operate company-provided software and systems to perform all aspects of the job.

- Strong language skills in Laotian and English.

Pay
$18 - $21 per hour, with a minimum of the applicable state or local minimum wage.
Schedule
This is a remote position where the interpreter works from their home office. Punctuality and availability during scheduled work hours are essential.
