Role and Responsibilities

The PSOE Language Specialist supports the needs of multilingual learners by providing direct instruction and assessment in small group and individual settings. They also assist with substitute support, coordinating language proficiency testing, and identifying program needs.

  • Provides direct instruction and assessment in small group and individual settings.
  • Assists with substitute support as needed.
  • Assists with coordinating language proficiency testing to identify students who qualify for MLL programs.
  • Identifies program needs (e.g., instructional materials and equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing input to MLL Team that will enhance the MLL program.
  • Aids in monitoring inventory of instructional materials, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of identifying required items to provide instruction in accordance with the established curriculum.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Assists with preparing a variety of reports and written materials (e.g., ILPs) for the purpose of documenting activities and ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
  • Responds to inquiries from school personnel for the purpose of providing information, assistance and/or direction related to the grade level or special area activities.
  • Utilizes data-driven instruction and PSOE educational frameworks to ensure delivery of standards-driven instruction to all students.
  • Completes assessments, grading, planning, and conferences with students, staff, and families within appropriate timelines.
  • Utilizes oversight by the MLL team, Special Education Director, school counselor, and other subcontracted professional staff/outside agencies as needed to identify and understand strategies for support and instruction of students with exceptional needs.
  • Ensures appropriate classroom implementation of BIP’s, FBA’s, IEP’s and 504 programs.
  • Completes any additional reporting as requested by the MLL Team, Special Education Director, or counselor.
  • As assigned, maintains regular family communication.
  • Completes reports and follow-up documentation as required by administration.
  • Contributes to keeping updated and documented cumulative folders as ongoing case files for all current students.
  • Serves on school and/or community committees.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The Language Specialist will be thoroughly committed to the PSOE mission. Prior successful full-time education experience in a similar setting is preferred. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include: High School Diploma. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. Unwavering commitment to quality programs and production. Excellence in organizational management and data disaggregation, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, and set and achieve strategic objectives. Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills. Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to planning. Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people. Passion, idealism, integrity, grit, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed. Annual training and/or professional development is required for all PSOE employees.

Preferred Skills

Proficiency in technology. Prior experience in charter schools. Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization.
