Landscaping Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Mow and trim lawns using riding and walk behind mowers, trimmers, and related equipment.
  • Perform basic landscaping such as weeding, mulching, raking, and general care of shrubs, trees, and flower beds.
  • Remove snow and ice from walkways, steps, and entry areas using shovels, snow blowers, and ice melt products as directed.
  • Operate and perform routine checks on landscaping equipment and tools to ensure they are clean, safe, and in good working order.
  • Assist facilities staff with other maintenance tasks as needed, including light repairs, event setups, and special projects as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
  • Drive campus grounds looking for any damage to landscaping or irrigation systems and sidewalks or driveways. Report any damages to department leadership.
  • Lead the effort during off-season regarding winterizing irrigation lines and fountains while communicating with contractors effectively as needed.
  • Keep exterior areas free of trash, debris, and other hazards to support a clean and safe campus environment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including but not limited to, housekeeping and janitorial tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in landscaping or maintenance.
  • Knowledge of various plant material preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures.
  • Ability to navigate work order system and prioritize/delegate work tickets to facilities staff.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction.
  • Ability to meet schedules and timelines for projects and event setups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work different hours when needed including weekends.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs repetitively.
  • Ability to stand, kneel and squat for long periods of time.
  • Valid Missouri driver’s license.
