Landscaping Crew Member
This position is responsible for lawn mowing, clean-ups, mulching, trimming, landscape maintenance, pruning, fertilization, weed control, planting of trees and shrubs, flower installation, leaf clean-ups, and similar tasks. Employees are responsible to safely and efficiently complete landscape enhancement projects on assigned properties.
Responsibilities
- Running equipment (skid steer, excavator, backhoe, etc.)
- Carries out specific landscape maintenance functions on the job site with an emphasis on spraying weed control and other chemical applications requiring licensure
- Stores, transports, mixes and applies chemicals in accordance with the law
- Follows installation instructions and plans with the Crew Leader and Operations Manager
- Assists in loading and unloading equipment, tools, and supplies on truck
- Complies with the equipment preventative maintenance program and thoroughly cleans used equipment and stores in designated areas daily
- Performs all job-related tasks safely and efficiently and uses all tools and equipment in accordance with company safety policy
- Assists in keeping job site, vehicles, trailers, warehouses and offices safe, clean and organized
- Informs supervisor of problem areas on site, equipment or supply issues, or of any accident or loss
- Complies with all company policies, procedures and safety requirements, especially in the handling of equipment
- Works to assure quality and timely completion of all tasks assigned
- Participates in training programs as required
- May be required to safely transport Crew Members to and from site in a company vehicle
- Performs other duties as required
- Operates mechanized equipment as needed, which may include gas-powered edgers, weed eaters, stick edgers, backpack blowers, push mowers, wheelbarrows, hand tools
- Performs daily assigned work according to department requirements including: mowing, edging, trimming, seeding, fertilizing, watering, detailing ornamental plant material, weeding, spraying or pulling weeds, cleaning hard surfaces, tree care, laying sod or masonry materials, digging, raking, and assisting with irrigation or masonry installation
Requirements
- Must be 18 years-of-age or older
- Able to read architectural drawings
- Able to safely work alone and display quality and thoroughness in work product
- Ability to teach and train new laborers
- Able to follow plans as shown on a map of property
- Dependable; consistently arrives to work on time, responds to management direction and commits to the required hours for job completion that will vary based on weather/season
- Organized, hardworking, safety conscious, punctual, leads by example, self-motivated, honest, and customer service-driven
- Effectively communicates with others, with the ability to read and/or comprehend written and verbal instructions/information
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
- Accountable; demonstrates dependability in attendance and timeliness, and carefully follows directions and instructions provided
- Solutions-oriented with the ability to apply feedback to improve performance
- Team-focused; exhibits objectivity and openness to others, mitigates conflict, and keeps emotions under control

- Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required and maintain a professional appearance at all times, adhering to uniform code
- Must have transportation to and from the designated meeting location
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in landscape installation
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Holds, at a minimum, a State Technician and/or Applicator license per local requirement
- Driver's License preferred, but not required
Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.
Environmental Considerations
- Works outdoors in various weather conditions that may be hot, cold, wet, or windy
- Operates in environments with unusually high noise levels
- Works with and near moving mechanical parts
- May be exposed to hazardous materials, fumes, or airborne particles such as gasoline, oil, grease, and horticulture-related elements like herbicides and pesticides
- Works on uneven terrain for extended periods
- Work may be performed at various heights above the ground
- May be exposed to nature, including irritating plants and stinging or biting insects
- May be exposed to dogs and other animals
- Must have the endurance to perform these tasks throughout a standard 8-10 hour day
- Must be able to work long hours and extra hours during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, etc., subject to call-in)
Physical Requirements
- Must have the ability and endurance to perform tasks for at least 8 hours
- Must understand and demonstrate proper safety procedures, complying with all OSHA regulations, and respond to emergency situations promptly
- Must be able to maintain attention and concentration for long periods
- Must be able to wear PPE as required
- Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle multiple times a day
Frequency of physical demands:
- Rarely (less than 10%): crawling, climbing poles, ladders
- Occasionally (up to 33%): sitting, looking into the distance, climbing stairs, lifting between 10 and 50 pounds
- Frequently (up to 66%): sense of touch, speaking clearly, getting in and out of truck, reading, hearing – speech range, depth perception, pushing, pulling, balancing, lifting up to 50 pounds
- Continuously (67% - 100%): walking, standing, manual dexterity, bending, range of motion, kneeling, squatting, twisting the body, grasping, seeing, reaching, color vision, lifting, carrying, lifting up to 10 pounds
