About the role
The Senior Crew Supervisor oversees and leads a crew of 10–14 employees in daily operational activities, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards. Experience in a cemetery setting is highly preferred. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience operating tractors and performing light masonry work. Proficiency in both English and Spanish is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, coordinate, and direct the daily activities of a crew of 10–14 employees
- Assign daily tasks and monitor work quality and productivity
- Enforce company policies, safety procedures, and proper equipment use
- Address performance issues and provide coaching as needed
- Operate tractors and other light equipment for ground maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections to ensure quality workmanship
- Ensure headstones, monuments, and grave markers are protected during maintenance
- Operate and maintain landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, tractors, etc.)
- Schedule routine maintenance and repairs of equipment
- Monitor inventory of tools, supplies, and landscaping materials
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, local regulations, and cemetery policies
- Conduct safety briefings and enforce PPE requirements
- Communicate effectively with management, staff, and cemetery personnel
- Maintain records of crew performance, timekeeping, and project completion
- Address on-site issues and provide effective problem resolution
- Promote teamwork and maintain a respectful, professional work environment
- Assist with planning schedules and staffing needs
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Immediately report unsafe working conditions and/or practices to the Account Manager
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, cemetery operations, or a memorial park environment
- Experience managing a team of 10–14 employees
- Prior experience working in a cemetery setting preferred
- Proficient in tractor operation and light equipment use
- Experience with light masonry work
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license required
Preferred Skills
- Proficient in English; Spanish fluency or bilingual ability strongly preferred
- Knowledge of OSHA and workplace safety standards
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities
Physical Requirements
- Physically demanding tasks include bending, lifting, kneeling, prolonged standing and/or sitting, and repetitive tasks
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and on uneven ground and landscape slopes
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to work quietly and respectfully during services
