Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented, process-driven Commercial Landscape Estimator to join the DCPS Landscaping team. This role combines analytical cost estimation with innovative landscape design for commercial projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine scope, risks, and constructability requirements to help with opportunity vetting and go/no-go analysis
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using AI-powered takeoff tools and traditional methods (e.g., digital plan takeoffs, on-screen measurement software), ensuring accuracy across planting, irrigation, and hardscape elements
  • Validate AI-generated takeoff data by cross-checking against drawings, specifications, and site conditions
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, takeoffs, and design files for future reference and benchmarking
  • Build comprehensive cost estimates using job/site specific considerations, current vendor pricing, and accurate production rates
  • Solicit, review, and level bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive and complete pricing
  • Build unit cost databases and assemblies for recurring landscape components
  • Identify scope gaps, overlaps, and value engineering opportunities during the estimating process
  • Prepare clear, detailed proposals and bid packages, including scope clarifications, exclusions, and assumptions
  • Create conceptual and detailed landscape designs, including planting plans, irrigation layouts, and hardscape concepts using CAD and 3D modeling tools
  • Produce client-facing renderings, visualizations, and presentation materials to communicate design intent
  • Coverage with clients, architects, engineers, and internal stakeholders to align design, budget, and schedule expectations
  • Conduct site visits to document existing conditions, verify measurements, and support both estimating and design accuracy
  • Integrate sustainable design practices, water management strategies, and regional plant knowledge into project designs
  • Track bid opportunities, deadlines, and submission requirements to ensure timely and compliant proposals
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client interviews as needed
  • Auxiliary with project turnover by preparing detailed handoff packages for operations teams, including estimate breakdowns, drawings, and assumptions
  • Serve as a point of contact for project managers/superintendents throughout the course of install, corresponding with them on the creation of change orders to capture any/all scope creep
  • Continuously evaluate and implement new estimating technologies, including AI tools, to improve efficiency and accuracy of the entire estimating process

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Construction Management, Finance or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2–5+ years of experience in landscape estimating, design, or a related role
  • Proficiency in estimating software and design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Bluebeam, Bobyard, Aspire, MS Excel)
  • Strong understanding of landscape construction methods, plant materials, irrigation systems, and hardscaping
  • Strong understanding of the process formalities surrounding bid-build landscape construction; submittals, change orders, O&M’s, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and client-facing abilities
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification or licensure (e.g., Landscape Architect license, Certified Landscape Professional, Certified Irrigation Contractor, Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper)
  • Experience estimating/installing commercial or municipal landscape projects
  • Knowledge of local codes, regulations, and environmental considerations pertaining to the Denver metro/Front Range

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $78,000 – $90,000 annually, based on experience
